ANKARA (A.A) - 18.07.2009 - China appreciates importance Turkey attaches to bilateral relations and Turkish political will to develop them further, a special envoy to Ankara said Saturday.
"Both sides have the necessary political will for the development of Turkish-Chinese relations. I have had very fruitful meetings in Turkey," said Aiquo Song, Chinese special envoy and former ambassador in Ankara.

Aiquo was in Ankara, the Turkish capital, since last Monday on a visit which he said would "fix negative effects on relations" of violent incidents of July 5 in Urumchi that killed at least 184 people and injured over 1,000.

"I am here in Ankara to convey correct information. But being in Ankara is not sufficient alone to do that so I am extending once again our invitation for Turkish media members to come to China to see the incidents on site. We have no attempt to cover up the issue," Aiquo said.

The Chinese diplomat has met Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Rifat Hisarciklioglu, chairperson of the Union of Chambers & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.

"It is very important for us to hear Turkey saying that it will continue to follow its principle of non-intervention in China's internal affairs," Aiquo said.

The Chinese diplomat also rejected accusations that Chinese government had been pursuing "an assimilation policy" against Uighurs.

"There is not even a slightest degree of assimilation nor any genocide. The number of Uighurs in China was 3.3 million when Chinese republic was founded. Now they are 10 million and they can preserve their own language and identity," Aiquo said.

Aiquo accused Rabia Kader, leader of the World Uighur Congress, of "spying against China for foreign intelligence agencies" and "leading a separatist movement."

"Kader will bring problems and disasters to the places she goes. And we believe that she should not visit other countries and she should be denied travel visas," Aiquo said. (İMB-GC)
